The Sky View Bobcats baseball team came into Friday’s game with a plan to finish the season on a high note by beating the valley rival Mountain Crest Mustangs, but that was just not meant to be. Unfortunately superb pitching by the Mustangs, and the silent bats and inconsistent defensive play of the Bobcats left them looking to next season as they fell by a score of 8-0 to the Mustangs who finish the season at 18-4 (12-3 Region 5). The Bobcats finish the season at 3-18 overall (3-12 Region 5).

Sky View’s Cole Godfrey threw 122 pitches over 6 innings in the losing bid, giving up 7 hits, striking out 7, walking six, and hitting 4 batters with pitches. Braden Anderson closed out the game throwing 17 pitches to finish the seventh inning.

After a scoreless first inning the Mustangs got hot in the second loading the bases after Mustang pitcher Parkinson was hit by a pitch, a walk served up by Godfrey, and a bunt single. The Mustangs scored on a wild pitch, followed by a 2 run single by Hansen and an RBI single by Root.

The Bobcats held the Mustangs scoreless in the third, fifth, and seventh innings, but gave up 2 runs in the fourth on RBI singles by Parkinson and Raymond, and 2 more unearned runs on errors in the sixth.

“We competed better than we had in last few games so I feel good about the way we came out and played”, commented Head Coach Bardett Bagley when asked how he felt about the game. "We had a few mistakes which put guys in scoring position and some things like that kind up ended up getting the score up there, otherwise it could have been a little closer game.

Bagley offered praise for Parkinson from Mountain Crest saying, “That kid threw a pretty good game, he no hit us. He hit spots well, and we didn’t hit the ball. That is something we’ve struggled with all year long so we’ll get working on that this summer.”

“We can improve on everything; when you only win three games there’s a lot of work to do.” Bagley continued, “A lot of it is just about really putting a game together. There’s times where we do each individual aspect of the game well, but very few games where we’ve really put all aspects of the game together, so that is what we’ll work on.”

The Mustangs Parkinson held the Bobcats hitless on the day by striking out 7, and walking 6. The defense for the Mustangs proved to be too much for the bobcats as they wrangled in 6 pop flies, and threw out 4 more on ground balls.
