Fans of Sky View wrestling will see a familiar face at the helm of the program next year when newly appointed head coach Bardett Bagley takes over the program.
In a shocking development after a very successful season and having devoted many years as the Sky View Girls Head Basketball Coach, Paul Hansen announced on Friday, April 8th that he was relinquishing his coaching duties. Hansen cited a difference of opinion on the direction of the program between the coaching staff and administration as a contributing factor in his decision.
Twenty Bobcat wrestlers battled in the 4A Northern Divisional Tournament held at Box Elder High School this year, and when the night was over six advanced to the State Championship Tournament. The wrestlers that moved on battled valiantly in the tournament, and the two Anderson’s on the team placed in the top five spots. Chet Anderson qualified 5th in the 189 pound weight class, while Brayden Anderson finished on top, repeating as state champion for the second year in a row.
The Sky View men’s wrestling team finished fourth out of six teams this weekend in the Region 5 Tournament held at Mountain Crest High School in Hyrum. In a tournament that came down to the wire for the top few teams, the winner was decided in the final championship round.
The Bobcats had a several individual victories this last weekend at the annual Bobcat Brawl, but were only able to manage a couple of team victories in the tournament held at Sky View High School.
The Sky View boys wrestling team squared off against Ogden High School last night and in an overwhelming victory out scored Ogden 84-0.
After losing a contact, suffering head clashes that lead to cuts and bandages, and battling into sudden death overtime Sky View junior wrestler Brayden Anderson held on to win his first 4-A state championship title in the 140 pound weight class, held at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem one week ago.
Nineteen Sky View wrestlers are headed to Highland High School in Salt Lake City Friday and Saturday to compete in the north division tournament, just one week after the team took third in the regional tournament held at Logan High School. Having a regional and sectional tournament is a new format that gives the team an opportunity to qualify more athletes to compete in the state championship tournament that will be held next week in Orem at Utah Valley University (UVU) beginning Wednesday, February 10th and running through Friday February 12th.
