Lady Bobcats break season tie against Lady Mustangs

SMITHFIELD — It was a night that ended with sweet revenge for the Sky View High School Girl’s soccer team. The Bobcats avenged their early season loss to Mountain Crest Tuesday night, winning round two by a final score of 2-1. The Bobcats were led by Senior Striker Stacy Bair, who scored the first of Sky View’s two goals and her pin point passing and superb ball handling was too much for the Mustangs defense to handle.

“She just commands respect,” Head Coach Doyle Geddes stated. “If you play her too tight she’s gonna punish you, so it gives her space to operate in. If you give space she’s gonna punish you…so the only way to defend Stacy is to put enough numbers around her that she can’t see an opening. And she had a lot of openings tonight.”

It didn’t take long for Bair and the Bobcats to strike. Less than a minute into the game Bair took a ball, dribbled through the defense and put it past the Mountain Crest goalkeeper. Mountain Crest pulled back even twelve minutes later, Junior Defender Karlee Campbell put an impressive free kick past the keeper from 35 yards out. The second half saw the Bobcats come out and run rampant past the Mustangs, dominating possession and creating a multitude of scoring chances.

Sky View finally broke through with the go-ahead goal in the 70th minute as Junior Jessica Brooksby muscled a shot through traffic and in. From there it was a simple matter of defense. “The defense was amazing… one flinch from us, ya know a free kick, a perfectly hit ball, other than that our defense was just solid all around the field,” praised Coach Geddes. While both teams saw plenty of scoring opportunities, the Bobcats would not be denied of their revenge.

With the win, Sky View improved to 8-4 on the season, while Mountain Crest fell to 7-5. With the win Sky View broke the tie with Mountain Crest for second place. The Bobcats now look gain ground on Region leader Bonneville when they travel to visit the Lakers on Thursday at 5:30 PM. Meanwhile, the Mustangs will look to rebound as they visit region and cache valley foe Logan on Friday at 4 PM.
