Lady Bobcats pass first round of 4A state tournament

Senior Dannika Webb scored 24 points to lead Sky View’s girls’ basketball over the Woods Cross Wildcats Tuesday morning, 63-50 at Salt Lake Community College during the first round of the 4A state tournament. The Bobcats got off to a slow start, but they were able to recover and maintain the lead. “I gave her the green light and she scored,” Bobcat head coach Paul Hansen said. “She passed up a couple of 3’s after she hit her first and I told her she needed to shoot.”

Hansen said he credits the Bobcats defense to their victory.

“Our defense was really good today, got the bigs in foul trouble and got them tired by halftime,” Hansen said. Senior center Lindsey Walker also had one of her best games of the season to help her team to the win. Walker finished the game with nine points and eight rebounds.

“It was a lot of fun,” Walker said. “We played as a team.”

The Bobcats will now prepare for the Snow Canyon Warriors, who defeated the Spanish Fork Dons, 64-43.

“When you come to state everything changes,” Walker said. “We have to keep our heads on.” Tip-off against the Warriors is slated for tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
