The Sky View girls basketball team staved off a third quarter comeback to run away with the senior night victory over cross-town rival Logan, 62-41.

All five seniors started tonight for the Bobcats; Sydnee Johnson, Maury Beorchia, Jessica Duffin, Courtney Ballard, and Linsey Walker.

Bobcat sophomore forward Tara Goldman had 14 points to lead all scorers, 12 of which came in the third quarter alone. Junior forward Whitney Alvey chipped in with 13 followed by Ballard with 11.

Logan senior Kaylee Merrill had 11 points to lead the Grizzlies.

From tipoff it was all Sky View as the Bobcats quickly built up an eight point lead, 16-8 assisted by a 3-pointer from Duffin. Sky View was up at halftime 26-16.

The Grizzlies came roaring back in the third quarter with a vicious full court press, getting as close as seven midway through. Duffin made a putback layup off a missed foul shot by Alvey just before the end of the third to make it 45-29.

Sky View head coach Paul Hansen said his team ran away with the game in the final quarter due to substitution rotations.

“We have some favorable matchups, or seem to when we play (Logan) and we like to exploit those,” Hansen said. “Tonight with a lot of lineups and the seniors starting, I thought everybody did well at keeping them out of the flow tonight.”

Duffin said it was exciting to come off one of her final games with a win, but it hasn’t hit her how quickly the season is coming to a close.

“I look forward to state and hopefully we’ll do good,” Duffin said, adding that being on the team has helped her become a better person. “It’s fun to build friendships and stuff along with success on the court too. These are some of my best friends that I have here… If it weren’t for this, I don’t know if we would have come together.”

Hansen said he could not have asked for more excellent young women than the five seniors he started tonight.

“When you make it here as a senior, you’re gonna become a big part of leadership and play,” Hansen said. “It doesn’t matter whether you’re playing two or three minutes or twenty minutes, you’re a huge part.”
