The Lady Bobcats held Box Elder scoreless through the first quarter and coasted to the region win 57-44 Thursday night. After one, Sky View was up 18-0. The first points the Bees were able to put on the board came seconds into the second quarter as senior forward Kaylee Walker hit a trey to get her team going.

Sky View head coach Paul Hansen said the first quarter was the difference in the game.

“We came out aggressive and did what we wanted,” Hansen said. “Then after that you’re pretty much just playing it out, but we had an excellent first quarter.”

After the first quarter, both teams played fairly evenly, the difference in score remaining around 20 points the whole game. Defensively, Hansen said that his guards did an excellent job.

“Bjorkie and Webb did a super job of pressure,” Hansen said. “The bigs down inside, Ballard, Walker and Goldman, they did a super job fronting and not letting them get it down in to Vincent. She’s a good player as we’ve seen here down the stretch.”

Box Elder senior Katie Vincent had 19 points to lead all scorers and added 7 rebounds. 18 of the 6-foot-1 center’s points came in the second half as the Bees mounted a charge to pull within 15 with 2:36 left in the game.

“We can’t keep giving her easy layups,” Sky View guard Dannicka Webb said. “We’ve just got to front her, double her, have help side defense. She’s a good player.”

Webb had 14 points in the game, hitting 4 three-point baskets. Hansen said the 5-foot-5 junior did a super job with pressure defensively.

“Dannicka the last 3 or 4 games has really started to play the way she can play as she’s become more comfortable,” Hansen said. “She missed a lot of last year with an injury and didn’t even get to play JV. She was hurt all year, but she’s a great player and she’s been shooting real well and we’re glad she’s on our team.”
