After struggling in the first three weeks of the season the Sky View Bobcats sported their gold jerseys against the Orem Tigers, and find the Midas touch in a convincing 29-6 victory.

The Bobcats had a special surprise for the Sky View fans as they came out and warmed up in their normal blue home jerseys. However after warm-ups and the pre-game speech the Bobcats sprinted back onto the field clad in the gold jerseys that they reserve for special occasions. Gold from head to toe the Bobcats struck pay dirt as they scored first and dominated the Tigers for most of the game.

After an initial big play by Orem that took the Tigers deep into Sky View territory, the Bobcat defense came up big and stopped the Orem drive. It only took a couple of plays for Sky View’s Gabe Anderson to hook up with fellow senior, Brady Martin for a deep pass that went 74 yards for the first score of the game.

The Bobcats defense came up big, play after play shutting out the Tigers for two full quarters until Orem’s Josia Tiatia, clawed his way into the end zone to score as the clock ticked down to double zero’s sending them to the locker room with 6 points on the board. Sky View head coach Craig Anhder said, “We’ve got to learn to not let them get that last drive before half, we’ve given up a couple of those in the last few weeks, but we’ll continue to improve. I’m interested in seeing the stats because I know we were pushing them backwards most of the night.” Overall Anhder had high praise for his defense saying, “Our defense looked amazing tonight.” He pointed out great play by his corner backs, and improved play by the outside linebackers and safeties. The defense added an exclamation point to their already impressive night when in the fourth quarter senior, Jordan Nielsen brought down the Tiger’s quarterback in the end zone for a safety.

On the offensive side of the ball Andher had praise for senior quarterback Gabe Anderson, commenting that he played a very smart game. “I thought we were really balanced, you saw how we were able to run the ball effectively, they had to bring everyone up and then we were able to throw it over the top. I love that balance and I want us to stay on that road.” Anderson had a big game throwing for 254 yards and tossed two balls for touchdowns. Anderson’s first pass went to Martin, and the second found senior tight end Don Corbell. Anderson was able to add two more scores with his feet, and led the team in rushing for the fourth straight week gaining 117 yards on the ground.

The weak link in both teams armor on the evening was the field goal team. Sky View junior, Josh Egbert who has been money all year long, missed an extra point and a pair of field goals. Meanwhile Orem’s kicker had struggles of his own missing the extra point after their only score, and also missed a field goal.

Sky View, now 1-3 on the season, hopes to continue their winning ways by taking the sting out of the Bee’s next week when they travel to Box Elder. Kickoff is scheduled for Friday, September 17th at 7:00 p.m.
