Senior Tanner Crockett shined as the Sky View Bobcats Boys Soccer Teams’ struggles continued Tuesday night at Crimson Field, as the Bobcats (1-12-2) fell to the Logan Grizzlies, 6-3. With one game remaining in the season, the Bobcats remain winless in Region 5 action (0-7) and have only one win to their credit, a 2-0 victory coming in their second game of the season to Morgan from Region 11.

Bobcats’ goalkeeper Jordan Nielsen and the Bobcat defense allowed five Grizzly goals within the first 20 minutes. Three of the Grizzlies goals came within in the first ten minutes of the competition. Angel Muniz, Ace Phillips, and Christian Ashcroft scored the first three goals for Logan. Then the Bobcats let the ball go into their own net without the help of the Grizzlies and that about sums up the year the Bobcats have had.

“I don’t know what to make of those first twenty minutes where we dug a deep hole for ourselves,” Sky View head coach Doyle Geddes said. “We let guys come through us.”

Steven Budge put another nail in the coffin early scoring a goal to give the Grizzlies a 5-0 lead. In the 35th minute of the half, senior Tanner Crockett found the back of the net from 20 yards out and then in the 36th minute Crockett found the back of the net from the same spot for the hat trick to cut the Grizzlies lead to three. Coach Geddes said the Bobcats simply lacked effort in the first half, and it showed as the Grizzlies and Bobcats played on the Bobcats side of the pitch for most of the first half.

“You know it’s a matter of effort,” Geddes said.

In the second half, the Bobcats gave themselves multiple chances to at least tie the game with penalty kicks, corner kicks, and other shots on goal. The only Bobcat who found the back of the net in the second half was Crockett in the 7th minute of the second half. The 35-yard shot from the right wing looked like it wasn’t supposed to go in and the goal surprised Coach Geddes especially.

“It’s a matter of reminding our guys that we have some heart, we have some pride, and let’s make sure we make it show up in the second half,” Geddes said. “That was one of the funnest second halves I’ve ever seen.”

The last time the Bobcats scored three goals in one game was against Juan Diego where the Bobcats took a 3-3 tie in their season opener. Since their 4-A State Title back in 2004, the Bobcats have digressed from their championship level. Through 2005-’07 the Bobcats put up a respectable amount of wins only to find themselves out of contention by the first round of the playoffs. From 2008 till now, the Bobcats have struggled to post a .500 record and for the first time in the last decade, the Bobcats will not be headed to the post-season.

The Bobcats will finish their season on Friday, May 7th at Box Elder. The game is set to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
