Tough game is heartbreaker for Lady Bobcats

“About what we expected,” said Coach Paul Hansen. “It was a physical contest and a good basketball game. One of the better high school girls games you’ll see.” An accurate assessment for certain. The Sky View Bobcats played the tough Mountain Crest Mustangs in a game that could have ended either way with the lead changing hands all evening. In the end the Mustangs came out on top 43-49.

“I thought the first half we controlled the tempo pretty well,” continued Hansen. “We moved the ball well and did a lot of things we’ve been working on. I liked what I saw.”

Good defense on both sides kept scores low, but Sky View still managed a 7 point lead at the half at 22-15. However, that all changed in the 3rd period where the Mustangs out scored the Bobcats 20 to 9.

“Second half we came out flat,” added Hansen. “We gave them about ten straight points. We just got caught standing there for a little while. It happens in a hurry.”

The Bobcats never fell far behind and even had a three point lead going into the fourth quarter. With one minute left, the score was tied 43-43. A Mustang basket tipped the scale in their favor and necessary fouls to get the ball back raised the score to 43-49.

It was an emotional end of an emotional day for Coach Hansen and his team. Earlier in the day was the funeral for Richard Hansen, Paul Hansen’s father. “They were all at the funeral today,” he said. “I thought they played well considering all that’s gone on. It was a tough day for them. All in all, [they played] a great high school girls basketball game.”

“We are raising fine young women, we still have a good record, and we still come to the gym and expect to win.”

Sky View is 11-3 overall and 6-2 in the region. Their next game is at Bonneville this Friday at 7 p.m.
