Best dam bike ride raises $140,000 for MS research
Utah cyclists raised $140,000 this weekend for Multiple Sclerosis research. The “Bike MS: Harmons Best Dam Bike Ride 2010” was a two-day, all-valley ride. Saturday, riders went as far north as Dayton, Idaho before returning through Rimchond and Amalga to the starting point at the Cache County Fairgrounds. Sunday they went south to Paradise, past Hyrum Dam, through Wellsville, Mendon and back to the fairgrounds. (Continued…)

Property owner installs power turbines in Summit Creek
“Here’s how it works: 4,000 gallons per minute is diverted from Summit Creek through a pipe, which runs about 50 feet underground before dumping into a cement vault containing the turbines. The water runs through the vault and into a pipe that takes the water back to the creek. The turbines can generate a maximum of 1 kilowatt per hour — together enough to power two homes. Utah Humanities Council to honor William Thornley
The Utah Humanities Council’s Human Ties Awards recognize exemplary public humanities programs. In 2010, just three projects have been selected for this honor from the hundreds of activities that have taken place in the past year. Mosquito season is here
CACHE COUNTY — A new mosquito season has begun. Cache Mosquito Abatement District (CMAD) workers this week began checking areas of standing water for mosquito larvae and are finding high numbers present. Larvacide is being applied to attack the mosquitoes before they become airborne. This minimizes fogging to kill the adult, airborne mosquitoes. (Continued…)
Canal shareholders vote to seek loan

Minor earthquake rattles northern Utah
A minor, 4.9 earthquake hit near Randolph, Utah at 5:59 p.m. Thursday evening. The quake was felt by people as far away as Salt Lake City. Logan resident, T.J. Hilton reported on twitter that the floor swayed slightly and the doors rattled for a second. Others report feeling dizzy or feeling their chair sway. (Continued…)
Rocky Mountain Power installing automated meters in Smithfield
The need for Rocky Mountain Power employees to regularly enter Smithfield customers’ property to read electric meters is coming to an end. Automated electric meters will be installed on the homes and businesses of approximately 16,000 Rocky Mountain Power customers in Smithfield beginning Tuesday. Postal truck flips in two vehicle accident
SMITHFIELD—No one was injured in a two vehicle accident that flipped a postal truck on it’s side last evening. “The red car hit, broadsided the mail truck,” said Todd Elwood who witnessed the accident at the intersection of 300 South and 100 West. “You can see where it spun around on two wheels and then it just tipped over.” (Continued…)
