The Night of Giving was a sellout crowd this year with 214 people attending. We had to add a silent auction this year because of all the generous donations. There were 25 items up for silent auction plus all the trees and gifts donated for the live auction. SMITHFIELD — Casey’s Barber Shop has been a fixture on Main Street since 1973, but the barber is not named Casey. Seventy-seven-year-old Kendall Corbridge is the longtime owner of Casey’s Barber Shop. Corbridge has gone by Casey since he was young. Ever wonder about the castle-like building south of town? The one with all the windows, parapets and even a few fountains? It’s the new Castle Manor reception center built by Alan Elder. “We had actually been planning on doing this for about eighteen years,” said Elder at the open house held in January. “My wife went to Europe about ten years ago and she took pictures of all the castles. We have slowly been drawing plans and coming up with ideas until we finally got it.” (Continued…)
Tickets are still available for the Night of Giving. The 3rd annual benefit starts with a prime rib dinner by Culinary Concepts followed by a Christmas tree auction of trees decorated by local businesses. The Greater Smithfield Chamber of Commerce reports that last year $12,000 were raised to help buy toys, food and some clothing for families in need. This year there will also be a raffle for a beautiful tree by Sugar and Spice. The benefit will be held this Saturday at 6 p.m. in the commons area at Sky View High School.
