No one’s afraid of snow at the 2011 Turkey Trot

The Smithfield Recreation 2011 Turkey Trot went off with a bang despite freezing temperatures and icy roads. When the storm hit the day before, the rec center decided to go ahead with the race, but expected many runners to not show up. It was just the opposite. All but 11 runners picked up their race packets, and they had many day-of-race registrations.

A total of 285 runners participated in the 10k, 5k and 1 mile run/walk. Several commented on how beautiful the day turned out with snow covering everything, beautiful blue skies above, and the sun coming out to melt the ice on the roads in most places. All in all, it was another very successful race.

The rec center would like to thank everyone for their continued support of our races and rec programs.
